Evolvement And Discontinuities: The Dynamic And Structural Analysis Of The Interaction Between The City And The Countryside

Since the Reform and Opening-up, the social development of China has been taking on a general tendency of conversion from the traditional agricultural society to the modem industrial one. However, after the mid-1990s, behind this tendencyhas emerged a new trend of social development, i.e., a new type of society- thediscontinuous society has appeared. In this trend, great changes have taken place both in the relation between the city and the countryside and in the structure of them .hi the meanwhile, the interaction between them in this structural social conversion has made its appearance as different forms and with diachronic characteristics in the process of social changes and gradually has fallen into the dilemma of discontinuities, hi this case, on the one hand, macroscopically the relation between the city and the countryside must be improved and the structure of them must be adjusted; on the other hand, microscopically corresponding reforms must be carried out concerning Social Security System, Census Register System as well as Rural Education System so that good external conditions can be created to make it possible for the city and the countryside to become two equal main bodies of the interaction. And still further as for the roads of their development, the city and the countryside can learn from each other to make up for each other's deficiencies, and they can share a common existence and prosperity, achieve harmonious development and try hard to make some gams on both sides.The main body of this thesis can totally be divided into three parts. Combining theory with reality, this thesis, around the interaction between the city and the countryside, analyzes and probes into the evolution of the interactive relationship between them and their interactive structure as well as the subjects such as their structural discontinuities and the roads of their development from the angles of "historism"(i.e. from a historical point of view) and "structuralism".The first part analyzes the relations in the interaction between the city and the countryside, i.e., the connection between their relationship and their interaction.Moreover, from the historical viewpoint, this part analyzes the evolvement of the interactive relationship between the city and the countryside and goes further into the conditioning factors that condition the evolvement.The second part analyzes the structure of the interaction, i.e., the connection between their structure and their interaction. From the angle of structuralism, this part analyzes the structure of the city and the countryside in the discontinuous society so that the outstanding characteristic of an interaction between the city andthe countryside in such a society is obtained-discontinuities. At the same time, itmakes further analysis and research into the principal manifestation of the structural discontinuities in this interaction.The third part advances some thought and discussion on a series of questions, such as the interpretative power of the interaction to the relationship between the city and the countryside, their structure and their development as well the virtuous interaction between the city and the countryside.
