After the II world war, economical competition among countries all over the world inevitably leads to competition of manpower development, as a critical element to win. Therefore, educational reform has been paid a unprecedented attention, especially, curriculum, as the core of the reform, becomes the center-point of the strategies of the countries and becomes the world-wide topic.British primary school curriculum (BPSC) finds its own way of development on the base of its intrinsic tradition and characteristics. The experience it has achieved is just what we Chinese are lack hi our curriculum. Then, study and analysis of BPSC is of great importance for our curriculum reform.This essay analyses in a longitudinal study the process of BPSC development and in a transverse study the goals, contents, and structure of curriculum in the history, and summarizes the characteristics, experience and lesson from the development. Accordingly, get some inspiration for our curriculum reform. .This essay is composed of six parts. Part I is concerned the background, causes, aims and meaning of the research. Part II is a brief analysis of elements about influencing BPSC before the II word war. Part III introduces postwar development of BPSC, and the changes of such relevant elements as aims, contents, structure, etc. Part IV is a summary of the developmental characteristics of BPSC: l.thick political colour is in the value; 2.tradition is valued; S.aims are shifting to a connection of quality, democracy and equality. 4. emphasis is put on coordination between "tradition of primary education" and "children's development ". PartV concludes the experience and lesson from the reform of BPSC. Part VI is a thinking of the problems we are confronted with in Chinese present curriculum reform, and points out some inspiration we can get from the study of BPSC.
