The educational ideology of nationalism, which is one of the most important pedagogical ideas in the history of the western pedagogy, has come into being along with the setting up of the neoteric nationalist countries in both Europe and America, the development of the capitalism, the great emancipation of the European and American ideology following the movement of Enlightenment, and as well as the struggle for gaining the educational power between the nationalist countries and the churches. The nationalist educational ideology affirms that education should be operated by the government, it emphasizes the social function of the education and insists that the citizens of nationalist countries should be cultivated through the traditional nationalist cultural education. Such idea plays a great role of a driving force for the education of Europe and America, especially in setting up the civil educational system in these areas and also in the development of education popularization. Therefore, it is a research of great academic evaluation and practical significance to systematically clear up the historical vicissitudes of the western nationalist educational ideologies, and to multangularly investigate its process of vicissitudes as well.This paper will demonstrate the changing process of the western nationalist educational ideas systematically, and draw the conclusion of their vicissitudes and also expose their historical significance and limitations by deep analysis and reflection.In the introduction part, the author states the significance, the aims and the adapted approaches of this research by introducing both the research background and the current research conditions of the western nationalist educational ideas.The main body of the paper is divided into five parts. The first one introduces not only the political, economic, cultural and educational background of the production of western nationalist educational ideas, but also introduces the civil educational idea of La Chalotais. In the second part, there is an introduction of vicissitudes of the educational ideas of the western nationalism before the World War II finished, which includes the educational idea of Romantic nationalism, the American public educational idea, the nationalist educational idea of democracy, and the educational idea of Fascism. The thirdpart first introduces the era background after the World War II finished, then describes the two developing routines of the western nationalist educational ideas after the war: one is the international educational idea beyond nationalism, the other is the nationalist educational idea which focuses on the education crisis and reformation. The forth part defines the term "globalization" first, and then summarizes the educational ideas of western nationalist under the background of globalization. The fifth part is the reflection on the educational ideas of the western nationalism, in doing so, the analysis and reflection are given to the various modes of the educational ideas of the western nationalism, and then the changing rules of the educational ideas of the western nationalism are concluded. The author also exposes the historical significance and limitations of these ideas, and also tries to reflect some problems of educational ideas of the western nationalism under the background of globalization.
