Running a school with its own characteristics is not only a trend in the world, but also meets the needs of our socialist educational system. It has been emphasized by schools, and is also beneficial to students in the development of their potential and personality. This essay combines high school curriculum reform with the formation of school characteristics through the analysis of the connotation and the basic features of school characteristics, the characteristics, patterns, and structures of the high school courses in order to offer a new viewpoint that the reform of high school courses offers an opportunity to establish high schools characteristics. This article also offers a detailed analysis of the misundstanding, difficulties, and solutions to these problems.The first section of the essay defines school characteristics, characterized teaching, and the characteristic of education, and summarizes the relation between them. In this section, it is pointed out that the purpose of the formation of school characteristics is to develop the potential and persenality of students, and to futher the education reform. Meawhile, it is a result of competition between schools and the rapid development of education.The second section deals briefly with the reasons which are handicapping the formation of school characteristics by analyzing the practice and reality of establishing schools with their own characteristics all over the world, among which are the unitary course patterns, the system, culture, the atmosphere, thought of running schools and the mechanism of selecting students by institutions of higher learning.In the third part, it is pointed out that high school curriculum reform is an opportunity to the formation of high school characteristics by analyzing the features of the recent reform of high school courses, the new course patterns, and the structure of courses.The last part of the essay, which of feres an analysis of misundstanding, difficulties, and the solutions, aims to guide those who are intending to run a school with its own characteristics .
