An Analysis Of The Structure Of American Textbook:World History:Patterns Of Interaction

Textbooks, the main material of students’learning and the main basis of teachers’ teaching, are the basic material of presenting the course contents and the important reference of achieving curriculum goals. The structure of textbooks, which plays a decisive role in performing the overall function of textbooks, affects the quality directly.With the growing trend of education internationalization, there are more and more studies about American textbooks. We stated to analyze the structure of American history textbooks and tries to find out the features of American history textbooks, which contributes to broadening the vision of the study.This paper views the American textbook——World History:Patterns of Interaction as the object of study.By using the related theory of textbooks’structure, we further analyzes this textbook, integrate the theory and the redaction of textbook,understand the theory of textbooks’structure in a deeper level, which can provide beneficial references to the redaction of future history textbooks.This paper consists of four parts.The first one is the introduction, which introduces the background, present situation, objective, tasks and method of study, defines the core concept. After analyzing and integrating the theory of history textbooks’structure, the paper divides the study into two levels:external entire structure and internal organizational structure.The second one mainly introduces the cover system of whole external structure, consultant and review system, catalog system, introductions for using system and appendix system of American textbook——World History:Patterns of Interaction. The third one further analyzes the text system, the auxiliary column system of texts’internal structure and summarizes their respective main features taking the text " Industrialization "in American textbook——World History:Patterns of Interaction for example.The fourth one focuses on discussing that the significance of the structure design which is based on deep analyzing the features of American textbook——World History:Patterns of Interaction.
