Since the 1980's, career guidance in Chinese senior high schools has resumed and achieved certain development. However, the situation in a whole is still not so optimistic. The progress of career guidance is far from enough, owing to little attention on it. This thesis discusses some reasons of this problem, and brings forward a proposition on establishing a social support system of career guidance, which may be helpful to the advance of career guidance. The career guidance's social support system includes all factors that can affect the study choice or career choice of senior high school students, such as high schools, enterprises, companions, parents, public media, etc.On the basis of related theories, taking university freshmen as the object, the author made a empirical study depending on a questionnaire and MBTI as measuring instruments, and the results indicate:1. In the social support system, the functions of family members and teachers are the most important.2. There is a significant gender difference in students, as far as their initiative in study choice and support seeking is concerned.3. Students from different districts differ in their judgments on support fountains' function, the degree of their obtained support, their initiative in support seeking and their evaluation of support fountains' effectiveness. Different financial backgrounds also affect significantly the degree of their obtained support and their initiative in study choice.4. Students with different characters differ from each other in their judgments on support fountains' function, the degree of their obtained support, their initiative in support seeking and their evaluation of support fountains' effectiveness.5. There is a notable correlation within the degree of support that students receive, their initiative in seeking support and their evaluation of support fountains.
