Textbooks as the materializing stuff are very important to convey the knowledge, socialize the individual and develop students. In terms of the idea on "international insight, national action", it will enlighten us on making a more practical and more updated textbook through the analysis of the textbook Modern Chemistry. The thesis consists of five parts. In part 1 , it shows clearly the reason and significance of selecting this topic. Under the broad background of international curriculum reform, it will stimulate our reform of chemistry textbook being performed in senior high school through the analysis of the typical chemistry textbook of the USA.In part II ,we put forward the theory ,which the thesis is based on. It is the system methodology that includes the principles of integrity, mutuality and optimization, and includes the ideas of whole-part-whole, the unification of structure and function, and the whole function bigger than the sum of each part, which guide to analyzing the textbook. In part III,the model of analyzing the textbook is constructed. Firstly, it relates to the general functions of textbooks. Then we describe the character of textbooks which points at the development of students, and which consists in facilitating students' learning and providing examples; Furthermore, based on the ideas of the unification of structure and function, four essential factors are included in the model, which are object factor, aesthetics factor, knowledge factor and logic factor; Because the textbook as a system exchanges information with outer environment , the feasibility and availability about the textbook are analyzed in the last part from the model. In part IV, the concrete analysis is done for the textbook Modern Chemistry according to the model. Firstly, the four factors are analyzed. Following the object factor, the aesthetics factor such as printing, diagram and word is analyzed; Factual knowledge, theoretical knowledge, skill knowledge, and tactic knowledge are analyzed about the textbook. In terms of analysis indexes of knowledge factor and logic factor, we also analyze them and make a simple comment. After that, we conclude the style and the system of organization about the textbook. The later is that the textbook centers on the Matter Structure Theory, in the front of which is theory knowledge and in the back of which is the knowledge about elements and experiments. It is a typically subject-centered textbook. Then we conclude the feasibility and availability about the textbook Modern Chemistry. We think the textbook is more suitable for the high-academic-level students who will intend to enter college; The feasibility mainly consists in the textbook paying much importance on promoting the students' understanding about the chemistry concept such as providing the analogy, placing stress on the correlation with student' experience and drawing concept map, which has a high correlation with the object of curriculum proclaimed by the publishing company.Based on the above analysis, we conclude the character of the textbook Modern Chemistry, which is a subject-centered textbook, laying stress on the tactic knowledge, paying attention to the students' understanding concepts, attaching importance to helping students form the special way of thinking problems in Chemistry, placing stress on the multiple teaching materials, paying attention to the organization of contents about the atomic structure and the periodic law.In part V, it is enlightenment. Comparing it with our traditional textbook, we point out that, besides the above six characters which should be strengthened, the arrangement of curriculum is also correspondingly adjusted in the new-cycled reform of chemistry textbooks for senior high school.
