Secondary education in African countries has received extensive attention from the international community, and the implementation of curriculum reform is an important power for its development.Textbook,as the materialized carrier of curriculum, has always been the important focus of curriculum reform.Ethiopia is a typical African country, and under the recent initiative of “China-Africa community with a shared future”,the exchanges and cooperation between China and Ethiopia in education and other fields have become increasingly close.Under the background that the Ethiopian Ministry of Education is reforming its curriculum of secondary education step by step, this paper analyzes the chemistry textbooks of Ethiopian high school, summarizes the characteristics of the textbooks and adopts the achievement of Chinese secondary school chemistry curriculum reform for reference, and puts forward corresponding redact suggestions, hoping to provide relevant enlightenment for Sino-African educational exchanges and cooperation. The paper consists of six parts:The first part mainly expounds the background, current status and frame of the research.Under the background that the cooperation of education between China and Ethiopia enters a new era,the research seizes the opportunity of Ethiopian government's vigorous secondary education development, and uses literature method, content analysis method and questionnaire method to analyze Ethiopian high school chemistry textbooks,so as to provide Chinese experience for Ethiopian high school chemistry curriculum reform, and meanwhile,to make up for the inadequacy of the current domestic research on the African education. The second part mainly expounds the theoretical basis of the research. On the basis of summing up the existed experience of textbook analysis, this paperestablishes the theoretical model of textbook analysis according to the analysis thinking of “whole-part-whole”.This model mainly includes five aspects: educational background, curriculum objectives, content analysis, presentation mode, characteristic and suggestion. The third part and the fourth part are the main parts of the research. The former part mainly analyzes the educational background of Ethiopia and the background of the Ethiopian high school chemistry textbooks and the expected curriculum objectives;the latter part is the detailed analysis of the Ethiopian high school chemistry textbooks, including the content selection, structure analysis and presentation mode of the textbooks.Among them, the content selection part lists the cognitive knowledge of chemistry, the knowledge of chemical skills, the knowledge of history of science and the content of STS education by category;the structure analysis part analyzes the textbooks by two aspects-style structure and system structure;in the presentation mode part, three aspects are studied: column design, illustration selection and exercise setting. The fifth part summarizes the characteristics of the textbooks and puts forward appropriate suggestions. On the basis of the above analysis, the research summarizes the characteristics and shortcomings of the textbooks, such as disconnection from the training objective of the curriculum, high difficulty of the textbook content, and partial disciplinizations in the textbook structure. Then, some suggestions are put forward to redact the textbooks: to match and improve the curriculum objective,to reduce the difficulty of the textbooks, and to improve the overall scientificity of the textbooks. The sixth part puts forward the relevant enlightenment to Sino-African educational exchanges and cooperation. From the perspective of educational elements, the future Sino-African educational exchanges and cooperation should focus on the following four aspects: more chemical laboratories should be built in financial element;teacher education should be emphasized in personnel element;secondary education should be expanded in structural element;African education research should be deepened in information element.
