On Gender Civilization

The influence and function of gender exist practically in all social behavior and social organizations, and have a close relationship with the development of human society. Both female and male are the driving force of social advancement and development, because it is their collaboration that creates the material and spiritual civilization. Along the long development river of human history, however, there is always much inconsistent development existing between gender and gender relations. Gender civilization lays its solid foundation on gender culture, while the makeup of modern gender civilization is based on the effective inheritance and accumulation from gender civilization. Any element that is helpful to the realization of gender equality and harmonious gender development should be included in the basic contents of gender civilization. Gender civilization is not only one of the most important parts that constitute the spiritual civilization of human beings, but also an indispensable part of human culture on the whole. From the elementary gender equality of primitive society to the male-focused state attached with female in an agricultural society, to the pursuit and practice on the equal and coordinated growth between both genders of male and female in modern society, gender civilization went through a change and improvement process from simplicity to complexity, elementary level to high level and spontaneity to consciousness; meanwhile, it also enriched the treasure-house of human culture, and reflected the unceasing replacement and leap of the .culture and ideology of human" beings.This thesis treats gender and the development of gender relationship from a gender-civilization point of view at the level of humanity, and takes the view that the ideal state of both genders is one in that both men and women can accomplish a free, all-round and harmonious development on a higher platform. Only when both genders are able to fully bring out their potentialities, can they spur themselves to play animportant and irreplaceable role of each other in the development process of human beings and society. This thesis also tries to give theoretical support to gender equality and coordinated growth by an analysis on the framework of gender civilization and its development process.
