The Research and Practice of Cultivating Visual Literacywith the Support of Information TechnologyZhu Jing-qiu (School of News and Journalist of Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing 210097, Jiangsu, China)With the advent of information society, visual literacy is becoming one of the fundamental points. In education, the meaning extension of "Reading, Writing and Arithmetic" makes it definite that we should force on the cultivating visual literacy. What's more, the lack of the learning resources requires that we should increase the speed of cultivating visual literacy.Based on the analysis on the current research all around the world, the research in the visual literacy is still deficient. It forms the weakness situation among all the research fields of Educaitonal Technology. Based on the information technology, this thesis points out that visual literacy must be the most important part of the ability of Educational Technology researchers. It is urgent to cultivate visual literacy.This thesis points out two strategies of visual literacy training: that is the training of visual reading ability and the training of visual expression ability. In visual reading, the training starts with the three levels of symbol. Due to its abstract extent, we raise that we should pay attention to the visual rules of Gestal psychology, the training of visual assocociation ability, the training of visual learning ability. The visual learning ability is composed with three parts, visual memory ability, visual observation ability and visual judgment ability. In visual expression, we begin with two levels, knowledge and emotion. In emotional visual expression, we try to use a more cultural way to analyse it, and point out that we should concertrate on the culture phychology of the receivers, get the unite of idea and form, realize the transform of emotion and so on.As the subsequent issue of the Meaning Expanding of "Reading, Writing, Arithmetic" "with the Support of Imformation Technology, this issue did some practice work on the cultivating visual literacy, as the result of developing the visual literacy training software called Don t Think You Can See. At the same time, we have designed the visual culture website named from Eye to Heart, so that we can go on with the further research of theory and practice.
