In recent years, a mighty curriculum reform in compulsory education is being carried out in China. The New English Curriculum Standard highly advocates the use of Task-based language Teaching (TBLT), in which teachers involve the students' active participation in the task performance so as to help them learn English through doing things such as thinking, discussing, cooperating and communicating and etc..Reading comprehension is very important in learning English, so the New English Curriculum Standard considers promoting the students' reading comprehension as one of the most important goals in English teaching. As we know, once one owns the ability of reading by himself , he has the ability to learn by himself, then he has a firm foundation for his further study. Therefore improving the students' reading comprehension is one of intended purposes of the TBLT.The TBLT emphasizes that learning by doing motivates the students to tap their potentials to study. The students master the language by using it communicatively in the classroom, although they still have to learn grammar and build up vocabulary. It also emphasizes on the ability to communicate through interaction in the garget language and the introduction of authentic texts into the learning situation. Provision of opportunities for learners focuses not only on language , but also on the learning process itself.This thesis consists of five chapters.Chapter 1 is a brief introduction of TBLT, mainly stating the relevant theories, the definition of a task and TBLT ; the features of a task ; the components of a task; the design principles of a task and the types of tasks and etc.In Chapter 2 the author analyses the relationship between Task-based Teaching and Reading Teaching, and the factors which have effects on the students' reading comprehension; the roles that the teacher plays in the teaching processes and the ways dealing with the problem in it Chapter 3 is the key section of the thesis, which shows the practice of TBLT in reading teaching in detail, including the teaching processes; the problems that the teachers should pay attention to, strategies in carry out the TBLT in daily teaching.Chapter 4 consists of some models of task-based teaching processes that teachers should follow.Chapter 5 is the end of the thesis. It includes the accomplishment and experience of the teachers and the students and the results of the experiment of which has been carried out for two and a half years...
