It is known for all of us that reading is one of the most important ways to obtain information. Meanwhile, reading teaching is the most important part during English teaching. And students'reading comprehension ability is one of the key factors to evaluate the language ability of the students.However, in the traditional English classes teachers pay more attention to the translation of the text and explaining of the new words and important phrases.Students recite the important vocabulary and the rules of grammar by rote.The role of students play a role of a passive receiver.Reading without a purpose makes the readers an onlooker or a "mute outsider", rather than a meaning-maker. So how to find a more efficient way of reading has already attracted much more attention for researchers.At the same time, we are happy to see that this phenomenon is changing.Increasingly, because of the combination and development of psychology, linguistics and pedagogy, more and more researchers and educators believe that their students should learn to monitor their own learning process.Due to this shift in attitude on teaching, the researches open the door for a new approach to teaching reading, named Reading Comprehension Monitoring.In recent years, reading comprehension monitoring, which has been drawn more and more attentions by researchers, serves as an important meta-cognition processing process in reading activities.It is regarded as a hot research field and symbolic achievement in modern reading teaching.Large numbers of researches home and abroad have shown that:the level of reading comprehension monitoring is the most important factor to distinguish good and bad readers.Reading comprehension monitoring plays an extremely important role on the efficiency of the students'reading. The development of reading comprehension ability is determined by the development of reading comprehension monitoring ability. That is to say, it is feasible to improve the students'reading comprehension ability by improving their reading comprehension monitoring ability through some effective training measures.In this meaning, it is necessary to learn about the current situation of the Junior High School students'reading comprehension monitoring. Discussing the countermeasures about training the students' reading comprehension monitoring is the most important in English reading. These measures will improve the students'reading comprehension level greatly and lay a good foundation for their lifelong learning.That is the purpose and significance of this thesis.Based on a questionnaire investigation and theory study, this paper presents detailed information on reading comprehension monitoring based on a large number of literatures and works.It will explore and analyze the value of the cultivation of reading comprehension monitoring ability in English teaching for junior high school students.The thesis includes five chapters. Chapter one is an introductory part, including the main idea, highlights the significance and purpose of the present study and the structure of the thesis.Chapter two reviews the theories of reading comprehension monitoring home and abroad.Chapter three deals with a questionnaire on using reading comprehension monitoring to know the current situation of the students'reading comprehension monitoring ability.Chapter four is the implementation of reading comprehension monitoring.It also summarizes the findings and analysis related to the research questions.Chapter five gives a conclusion, summarizing the main viewpoint of the thesis, implications and limitations.Through a teaching experiment for a term, it proves that the cultivation of reading comprehension monitoring in daily reading instruction is really helpful to improve the students'reading comprehension ability.
