This thesis reports an experimental study of EFL strategy training. The study is designed mainly to explore the impact of the Strategies-based Instruction on high school students' EFL reading efficiency, and secondarily to investigate the transferability of the effectiveness of reading strategy training to listening comprehension. In this study, 60 students of senior three in a high school were either participants receiving a three-month strategies-based instruction or comparison subjects receiving the three-month regular language course. Both of the experimental group and the comparison group filled out a pre-treatment questionnaire and a post-treatment questionnaire. Besides, all of the subjects took the pretest, mid-test and posttest. The scores were statistically analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 12.0). In addition, some subjects were interviewed before and after implementing strategies-based instruction. The following questions are addressed:1) Does the Strategies-based Instruction (SBI) affect high school students' EFL reading efficiency?2) If yes, is there a transfer of effectiveness of reading strategy training to listening comprehension? Findings indicate that the Strategies-based Instruction (SBI) does affect high school students' EFL readingefficiency, and that the learners' listening comprehension is improved with their reading efficiency. The present thesis composes of five parts. Chapter One introduces the objects, background and significance of the study. Chapter Two presents a review of the literature on learning strategies and strategy training. Chapter Three expounds theories relating to reading and strategy instruction in the study. Chapter Four highlights the present study by describing the subjects, methodology and the conducting procedure. The results are discussed in Chapter Four, too. Chapter Five reaches the conclusion of the study, provides methodological and practical implications, points outs the limitations of the study, and gives recommendations for further researches on the field.
