On The Implements Of College System In Chinese Universities--A Case Study Of The College System In Northwest Normal University

Recently, with the deepening of the reform of high education, there has been a great change in the organizational structure and management system of the universities in our country. The reform of intramural management system, which aims at sharing resources in universities at home and increasing the benefits in running universities, has been unceasingly advancing, and the implementation of college system has now become an important measure in intramural management system reform in many universities in China. The change in management model is not only an opportunity but also a challenge for the development of universities in China.At present, the reform of college system in universities is at its full wing. While we stress the achievements of the reform, we should be more aware of the new urgent problems so that a healthy and smoother development of the college system can be guaranteed. The reform may be influenced by many factors, thus, full consideration in both theory and practice is needed for the successful implements. However, in reality, the work in both respects is far from enough, which may constitute as the rootof obstacles baffling the reform or further reform.Starting from the evolution of college system in universities, the present research states the origin of college system, the theory and practice of college system in modern western society, and the history of college system in China. The thesis summarizes the college system in Northwest Normal University, and then taking the reform of college system in Northwest Normal University as a case and considering the present situation of the implements of college system in the universities in China, it theoretically analyzes and studies the positive role, the dominating features of the college system and the main existing problems. The practice of college system reform at present in China has strong spontaneity, weak standardization, obvious comprehension, variety of structures, and more comprehensive management formats, however, in its implements, it has divergent forms in the aspects of establishment, the position of management and the basic functions of the college. At present, insufficient theoreticalpreparation in the implementing of college system and a lack of experience and organization in practice are the major problems, thus leading to many difficulties and problems to be solved.Based on systematic analysis, the thesis further puts forward several problems which should be noticed: the implements of the college system must take the change of the notion as its forerunner; a plan to be carried out step by step should be worked out; the establishment of college system must take the development of study orientations as its base, cohesive discipline as its supporting force; the key point in the reform is to set up typical features, to seek for actual effects; it is crucial to guarantee a smooth relationship in the change of the functions; substantial construction should be advanced; relations among intramural power structures should be properly treated, and professional management should be reinforced.
