Classroom teaching is heart of school education that acts as the most important means of youngster's education. Teaching and studying in China followed a traditional teaching model that had many shortcomings in fostering ability of student from 1950s, and also resulted in a dull and dry studying way for students. So there were many education reform voices for it since 1980s in our country. To respect and cultivate student's subject, creativity and cooperation in teaching became the important goal of education reform. As an effective method in training student's ability, exploratory teaching provides a valuable way for teacher to carry out quality education. This paper carried out a practice study of exploratory teaching in accordance with the present conditions of reception teaching that existed commonly in biology education in middle school, getting in touch with reality of our school and students. The aims were to reflect the students' subject role in study, cultivate their initiation, creativity and cooperation ability, and improve teaching efficiency.The author selected some contents of courses of biology in the third grade, junior middle school, and developed research of exploratory teaching in experimental classroom by using some proper methods according to its principles. In the course of exploration, the students' subjects were trained through their initiatively participating, positively thinking, and analyzing and enquiring problems. We tested students' work results, investigated and analyzed their academic interests, attitudes, independent consciousness, behaviors in class, and completing exploratory assignments after class. The results showed that experimental class had better scores, higher interests, stronger consciousness, more cooperative ability, and more creativity.The study results also showed that the consciousness, initiation, creativity and cooperative ability of students could be improved in biology of junior middle school by developing exploratory teaching, even in school of bad conditions.
