With the development of information and communication technology,our lives are full of knowledge.Pictures with simple,intuitive,and rich features become a good carrier of knowledge.So the accurate interpretation of picture information is particularly important.However,during the biology teaching,we can easily find that the consciousness of students' reading pictures is weak and the the students are not capable of reading pictures,which is sure to seriously impede the formation of the core accomplishment of the students.Therefore,it's valuable for the realization of the curriculum goals,the development of the teachers and the formation of the students' biological core accomplishment to know the characteristics of the image of the current teaching materials,analyze the problems in the process of reading,and explore the effective measures to cultivate the students' reading ability in biology teaching.This study consists of six parts.The first part discusses the background,purpose,significance,contents and methods of the research,the relevant theoretical basis,defines the concept of reading ability,and briefly introduces the research status at home and abroad.The second part analyzes the biology textbooks in junior high school from three aspects: the compositions,types and distribution of pictures,and gives some suggestions on the use of pictures in biology teaching.The teacher should take good use of pictures on textbooks,emphasize theory with practice,strengthen hands-on practice,develop student's consciousness and ability of reading pictures.According to the status of Changsha junior high school academic examination in recent three years,the third part focuses on the analysis of the exam questions with pictures and the students' answers to them,and summarizes the problems of the students' answers.The fourth part actively explores the effective ways to develop the students' picture-reading ability with the help of biology teaching practice.Author has implemented comprarative teaching between the experimental group and the control group.We foud that the students' reading-picture ability is siginificantly better than ordinary-teaching students through the analysis of relevant data.The fifth part is the core content of this study.Based on the research on teaching materials,the exam questions with pictures,and teaching practice,the author puts forward the training measures of students' ability to read the pictures in biology teaching of junior high school: a.Make the best use of pictures on the textbook to master the methods of reading them;b.Implement the experimental operation to improve the reading effects;c.Enrich practical activities to improve the divergent thinking of reading pictures;d.Pay attention to reading training to improve reading skills.The sixth part discusses the basic conclusion of this study,which has the certain reference significance to the cultivation of students' picture-reading ability in biology teaching.At the same time,it analyzes the shortcomings of the research process and the direction of future efforts.
