With the development of modern economics and society English plays a more important role in the modern construction of our country. English has now become one of the most important means for acquiring access to the world's intellectual and technical resources. Therefore the demand of the society and employers for middle school English teachers and English teaching level has more greatly increased. In order to meet the challenges new educational reforms have been under way in middle school English teaching, while it is teachers who hold the key to the outcome of the educational reform. Raising the quality of middle school English teachers must be attached great importance to by both teachers and administration. And teacher professional development and its school-based training are imperative under the situation.This thesis consists of 3 chapters. Chapter one first defines teacher professional development, school-based training and their characteristics. School-based training is a good way to middle school English teachers. Chapter two briefly talks about the current school-based training situation of middle school teacher professional development in our country and analyses it. Chapter three is the key to the thesis. It is about the contents of teacher professional development and how middle school teachers carry out the teacher professional development in the school-based training. This chapter describes in detail how to teach, what to learn, and how important to do teaching research etc. In Chapter Three the writer tries to explore the way to school-based training and its management of teacher professional development.
