On Current Situation And Developing Tendencies Of Wushu

Wushu originated in China, and it is a traditional excellent sports event in China. Chinese wushu has been growing silently among the people for several thousands of years. Modern wushu which began at the foundation of new China has developed for more than 50 years by now.Because our Party and government have been attaching great importance to it, wushu has gained unprecedented development since the 3rd Plenary Meeting of the 13th Session of Central Committee of the CPC. The achievements made by wushu are unprecedented not only in the field of contest sports but also in body building program for all the people. Wushu, the traditional culture of China, is showing varieties of developing tendencies. In contest sports, the project of Olympic Games of wushu has made achievements of world interest. With approaching of the Olympic Games of 2004 hosted by Beijing, Chinese wushu is hopeful to be a regulation event. The dream of several generations of Chinese wushu circles is hopeful to be realized. In the aspect of body building program for all the people, wushu has long been a generally accepted body building method. Wushu has stepped to the world and become a beloved sport for all the people in the world. At the same time, wushu contests are held frequently, and wushu activities among the people are developing vigorously. Chinese wushu is in the still growing period.However, in the 1980s and 1990s, wushu sports stepped into the low et>b and wushu's development was faced with crises and challenges because the management system of wushu sports at that time didn't get with the climate of market economy construction of our country. Especially in the big environment of transition from planned economy to market economy, the development of wushu was more faced with severe challenges and its prospect was worrying.In the development of wushu, traditional wushu is faced with the danger of being lost because of constraints of various reasons. These constraints mainly are: there are many groups and difficult terms in traditional wushu, which makes it hard to understand for foreigners, even for Chinese;the comparative close between the groups and respective development result in many kinds of boxing being lost and gongfu of particular group or kind of boxing being in the tendency of dying out, and there also appear confrontations between groups; traditional wushu is difficult to learn and popularize and it is also charged by modern happy sports, which causes a lot of people reluctant to learn traditional wushu; the smaller space development of contest market limits the development of traditional wushu activities; the development of model of contest wushu makes the reserve resources of human talents in traditional wushu in the serious fault and no development for research system.In its development, traditional wushu should bring forth new ideas on the basis of heritage, change its historical role to the times role, step to the world stage from national region, make fair and promoting contest system, establish scientific theory research system, and form a set of specific popularizing model, unified training model and wushu rites.For the reform and innovation of contest wushu, we must first be perspective on the development of sports of a series of skills and tricks in wushu: the form of a series of skills and tricks in wushu becomes westernized and formularized, unreasonable clauses appears in the rules, athletes are in the tendency of low age, a series of skills and tricks in wushu are difficult to be popularized and lack contest market, and so on.
