Content: As a school of western philosophy, Postmodernism has revealed great vitality spreading all over the world since its existence. It has been the academic hotspot in our country these years and is especially concerned in education research circle. Postmodernism is a very complex trend of thought, so people have different views on it. The author is trying to absorb the constructive part of it and apply it to the teacher development idea. The post-modern notions of teacher refer to not only views held by post-modern thinkers about teacher, but also by present education researchers about teacher in the perspective of postmodernism.The dissertation is composed of three parts. The fist part analyzes the theoretical background of the research, then put forward the issue that the dissertation is to deal with. The second part probes into the post-modern notions of teacher. In this part, the author explores the thought of postmodernism including the background, characteristics and evaluation on it, then makes a brief introduction of the post-modern teacher idea of Willian E.Doll, Rechard M.Rorty and Lyotard, pointing out the transition of teacher's role from modern teacher to postmodern teacher. At last, the author elaborates the enlightenment of post-modern teacher idea to us. The third part deals with the combination of post-modern teacher idea with the teacher development problems in our country. The dissertation first makes critics on the teacher's modernity in our country in the perspective of postmodernism such as materialism, utilitarianism, instrumentalism, lack of literal quality and ect. The author then points out that the way to transcend modernity for teacher is to pursuit the spiritual, liberal and creative existence.
