Citizen consciousness is one essential component of citizen quality. Qualified citizensare characterized by healthy consciousness, i.e. They are explicitly aware of their rights,obligations, and duties to be impiemented as well. Since 1980s, with the renaissance ofhumanistic world outlook 'human' itself has been increasingly highlighted. A consensuswhich has been reached is that more importance should be attached to education in citizenconsciousness during the process of 'human' cultivation, particularly for students at theirsecondary stage , in the sense that they are the key power in the fulfillment of constructing'socialism with Chinese characteristics'. They, in addition, are at the crucial period of shapingtheir philosophy and values. Therefore, it is significant that we realize and inquire the currentcondition of students' citizen consciousness, then explore the relationship between thestudents'citizen consciousness and concrete discipline teaching , and also the ways to carryout. It is widely accepted that secondary school students lack citizen consciousness. While thepublic exhibit confused comprehension of the effective methods to strengthen citizenconsciousness in history disciline. This paper therefore mainly focuses on the relationbetween cultivation of students' citizen consciousness and history discipline in secondaryschool. It also covers my tentative thoughts on how to imlement it in practice. Hope this willshed light on the following attempts. The main body of this paper has been subcategorized into three sections, which aimtoelucidate the relationship mentioned above. The first part is concerned with expatiating uponcitizen and citizen consciousness from two perspectives . One comes from the origin ofcitizen, and the other involves how to define it in both China and other countries . The dataanalysis is based on the result of a small—scale questionnaire investigation on the problemsabout students' citizen consciousness. Part two illustrates the significance of cultivatingstudents' citizen consciousness: by the way of questionnaire inquire . · citizen consciousness raising lays the foundation for cultural ideological progress. · citizen consciousness raising will meet the need at transitional stage. · Strengthening citizen consciousness can improve the present condition of citizeneducation. · Advocating the cultivation of citizen consciousness is one shared concern in thewhole21th century for education all over the world . The last section describes from four aspects that history discipline in secondary school isthe effective means to develop citizen consciousness. First, history discipline in secondary school is the important medium in theaccomplishment of shaping students' citizen consciousness, together with history discipline,belongs to the indispensable content of quality education. Third, students' citizenconsciousness is in accordance with history discipline in aesthetics. Finally, cultivating students' citizen consciousness is the critical objective for historydiscipline.
