The School-based Teaching Research (STR) is one of the hottest issues among the Educational Academic Circles, and the important tactics that are applied to carry forward the Curriculum Reform among the Educational Practical Circles in China nowadays. It has been being the main discourse among the academic researchers and the practitioners in the world of Education. This thesis is initiated from the discussion on the Professional Development of Teachers (PDT). Based on the achievements acquired by the fore researchers, the STR has been discussed in the perspective of the PDT using theoretical method, historical-documentary method, comparative method and so on. First of all, the PDT has been expounded from several related aspects, and then the STR has been made a profound study. The main contents of the thesis are concerned about the concepts of PDT and STR, the ways through which the PDT can come true, and the relation between the PDT and STR as well. These all have been expounded emphatically. On the basis of the related achievements on "Reflective practice", PDT and STR have been discussed profoundly. The thesis has five parts. The first one is Introduction. It discusses the background and origin of the question for study, and the author's train of thought about the study. The second one is about the teacher profession and PDT. After making these concepts explicitly (profession, teacher professionalization, and PDT), the author makes a profound study on the ideas, the process of teacher professionalization and the objectives of the PDT. Then discusses the ways in improving the PDT from two aspects of the training of the future teachers and the activities of teachers such as reflecting, practicing and studying. The third one is about the STR. It has been viewed as the major platform where the PDT can be improved through many activities. The author discusses the concepts of STR, its origin and the functions in promoting PDT in details in this part. At first, the author differentiates and analyses these concepts of School-based, School-based research and STR. Then puts forward his own viewpoints by widening the extension of STR. Next, the author expounds the origin of STR and analyses its causes. Then the functions of STR have been studied from the widen angle. Finally, the author discusses emphatically the relation between STR and PDT with the viewpoint of the professionalization. The fourth one is that Giving full play to STR's functions on promoting the teacher professionalization in order to improve the PDT. It is to answer the question that how to carry out STR to improve the PDT. Firstly, the author expounds the working mechanism of STR. It has been discussed from the two sides, linking reasonably all kinds of essential factors and the working conditions. Next, the author explains that Action Research and Narrative Research are the most suitable methods in taking STR activities. At last, the author discusses the assessment on STR and applications of achievements from STR. The fifth one is that Concluding remarks. The author makes a summary and states the main viewpoints briefly, and then points out that a few questions remain to be solved in future.
