The present study is about the oral test of the English language based on computer. It mainly deals with the oral test of the NMET, but this procedure can also be used in other oral test, such as College English Test Band Four, Band Six and so on. This study is a kind of reform of the English oral test. It has advantages over any traditional oral test because it covers all the advantages of the traditional oral tests (in course of the traditional oral test, test takers can not often show their real ability of oral communication because of psychological pressure. And its marking is subjective and lacks fairness). It can ease test takers' psychological pressure so that they can bring their oral potential to full play. What they have performed will be memorized in the marking system and then will be marked by trained markers at a proper time (the result of one test taker's oral performance will be marked at least by two trained markers. If their marking results are controversial, it will be marked by some specialists in this field). That is to say the marking is much fairer. And the new oral test does not need so many examiners as the traditional one, so the test expense will be lower. According to my interviews with some oral test takers and some students, 90 percent of them prefer the new oral test based on computer. From all of the above, I should say the English oral test based on computer is more practical and effective.
