English language teaching in China has been time-consuming and inefficient for a long time (Dai Weidong, 2001), which has set many teachers and linguistic pedagogic researchers thinking deeply. This paper considers that one of the major causes of the time-consuming and inefficient state in English language teaching is lack of humanistic care of English students. In this study, firstly, the author makes a brief summary of some scholars' contributions to the research of humanistic care from multilateral points of view in education in China and reckons that humanistic care is a significant topic in contemporary education. Chapter 1, based on combining the principles of the learner-centered of humanistic education with the concepts of the reader-centered and the horizon of expectations in terms of reception aesthetics, defines the profound implication of humanistic care in English language teaching of higher vocational-technical colleges (ELTHVC): It is highly necessary to care about students' needs and interests, their emotional state and their moving horizon of expectations. Our English learners are not containers of knowledge nor wood to be carved, rather they are living beings full of intelligence and potential possibility. So in English teaching, we should adopt learner-centered humanistic teaching approach rather than traditional teacher-centered behaviorism teaching approach. Thus, in Chapter 2, the author gives a brief introduction of humanistic approach—cooperative language learning(CLL) and explores its definition, basic elements and value. Chapter 3 is a report of a questionnaire, given to 186 non-English majors from the first and the second grades from three colleges in Huaihua, a city where the author works, and an interview with their English teachers.
