Chemcom(Chemistry in the Community) published for the first time in 1988 is a set of social-centered textbook developed by American Chemistry Society. It aims at the crisis of science education in U.S.A at that time,facing those students who will not take chemistry as their career in the future,trying hard to show the fascination of chemistry through recommends student chemistry function to the society. The textbook breaks the tradition that arranges the contents as subject-centered,and regards social concern as the center to organize the contents. It fully reflects some new educational thought such as STS, and represents the development trend of science education in the modern society. It is a very influential textbook in the world. The new reforms of basic education curriculum of our country advocate training stuent's scientific literacy in an all-round way. The new reforms of curriculum set up the course module with different characteristic, in order to meet different needs of the students. In new high school chemistry of elective module, "chemistry and life","chemistry and technology"take the nature of social-centered of course clearly.But our textbooks develop competence to be relatively low, and have no precedent to develop social-centered textbook in particular, therefore analyzing the foreign outstanding textbook represented by Chemcom is very essential, and this is a main object of this research. The research focuses on five aspects. The first part introduces the request of the current curriculum reform to the social-centered chemistry textbook, clarifies the important meaning of this research. Then we put forward the theory's constructing and the model that we analyse the textbook, namely adopting"whole-part-whole"thinking to analyse the textbook. The second part is the whole analysis to the textbook.We analyse the background that Chemcom products firstly, and this convenient to understand why Chemcom can break through tradition of subject-centered.
