Our schools are confronted with many problems at present, particularly in the value domain. From the ethos of schools, this research has made the perspective and the analysis to the schools value orientation. By elaborating the representation, the evolvement and the serious consequence of modern ethos of schools, this paper has made the critique and reconsidering to the predicaments of education's modernity, and proposed how to construct the new ethos of schools.This first part of this paper is to make outline on the ethos of schools. First it has made the introduction to the theory background, then has defined what is modern ethos of schools, and sketchily summarized its characteristic and the representation.The second part is the key part. Mainly elaborating the representation, the evolvement and the serious consequence—separation with peideia~of modern ethos of schools. Appearing separately from the devaluation, demoralization, benefits and discipline, it analyzes the abnormal of the modern ethos of schools. Furthermore, it has quoted massive examples as the auxiliary.On the basis of the foregoing parts, the third part of the paper discusses the necessity of the new ethos of schools which focuses on peideia, and trys to propose some suggestions, such as in the construction of school community, the foundation of free and democratic atmosphere in schools.
