History is a basic subject to understand and expound social development and objective law. It can also improve the quality of the whole nation. As a required course, history has been playing an important and active role in developing students'humanism, scientific spirits and moral character. However, the age-old teacher-centered model of knowledge instilling, in which students, as objects, are always in the position of passive receiving knowledge, which reduce seriously interest in history study. As a result, most of the students are lacking in accomplishments in history, abilities of analyzing and solving problems, and spirits of creativities as well. To change this situation, the author of this thesis devoted lots of time and energy to the researches on practical teaching and studying strategies. The whole thesis consists of five chapters: Chapter one is an introduction, which discusses the necessity and possibility on making the research; Chapter two mainly covers the theoretic bases concerning with this topic, characteristics and aims in high school history inquiry teaching ;Chapter three gives a brief account of the background on both home and abroad and the enlightenment to today's history teaching; Chapter four provides a detailed study on the basic process in teaching and some new strategies in practice; The last chapter of this thesis concludes the whole paper and gives some suggestions in future inquiry teaching.
