Research On Transformation Of The Social Spatial Structure Of Guangzhou Central City

With the transformation of soci-economic system, Guangzhou has witnessed a great change of social spatial structure. With the economic development and urban construction, the restructuring and polarization of the social spatial structure are evident.The research on the social spatial structure of Guangzhou central city includes theoretical discussion and empirical analysis. After reviewing some of methods and theories in this research field, the paper presents a case study of Guangzhou central city, based on data from the 5th census in 2000. By comparing other's studies in middle 1980s and 1990, the evolution of the social spatial structure is analyzed. Then the paper tries to interpret the underlying mechanism of social spatial restructuring from four factors: government, market, individual and technique. Finally, the paper present two policy advices: mixed-income housing and optimization of the public facilities.
