The Educational Value And Realization Of Traditional Culture In Modern University

Traditional culture becomes less regarded nowadays in the modern world, and culture gaps become more evident. Higher education, which is one of the social mechanisms for cultural inheritance, should be responsible for its obligation.However, there's no doubt, that traditional culture has been neglected in modern universities, which is shown by the following two facts. One is its deviance in undergraduates, and the other is its deviance in modern higher education.Historical reasons can be found for this problem about traditional cultural education, including hundreds of years of disgraceful feelings caused by lost wars, cultural mentality paints, a culture shock during social movements and mentality with amusement caused by blind faith in foreign things and pursuing a fast-food culture. Another reason is the ignorance of cultural education during higher education development. In 1952 universities and colleges in China were reconstructed according to the Soviet system. Since then, education on engineering and techniques has been paid much attention, in order to satisfy the requirements of social industrialization and modernization. Traditional education was overlooked to an extent that never happened before. Although it is history that led to this, some deviance has already occurred in higher education.In the background of globalization, internationalization and modernization of higher education, traditional culture education is more important. Therefore the value of traditional culture education should be redefined, including three aspects. The first one is that traditional culture will help the formation of national character for undergraduates. The second is that it will help the creation of healthy personality for undergraduates. The last one is that traditional culture is one of the most important elements in education for all-round development.The educational value of traditional culture is some kind of potential value, which will become practical value if rational mechanism is given. Therefore we should have some process to create the culture main body. And also tradition culture should be inherited and created, therefore they can adapted to modern life. Education value of traditional culture should also be realized by all means.
