The motive of this paper is based on a realistic problem in music education. Presently in our country's middle-schools, a phenomenon universally exists that students excessively favor popular music, but neglect and even exclude other kinds of music. The simplification of students' aesthetic interest is disadvantageous to their aesthetic abilities' enhancement, moreover its negative influence in popular music can affect student's healthy both in mind and body. In view of this situation, the author starts this article from literature inspection and actuality analysis.This article divides into five chapters. A definition and characteristic of popular music is given in the first chapter. The polysemy of POP music's definition is easy to cause research target to be undetermined, therefore a determinative definition of popular music is prerequisite. In chapter 2, the author outlines middle-school students' mentality characteristic. This chapter provides academic foundation for subsequent researching. The third chapter analyzes their mentality reasons why middle-school students are partial to popular music. Its mentality influence to middle-school students is given in the fourth chapter. This chapter not only analyzes possible negative results which this actuality may cause, but provides gist and reference for succedent tentative strategy. Based on detailed analysis and research in the third and fourth chapter, the author synthesizes correlative factors and psychologic principle and then brings up five teaching methods and proposal in chapter 5. This tentative strategy is key point of full article.The outstanding characteristic of this article is psychologyknowledge's application to the analysis and solution of a music education problem. The actuality that middle-school students are partial to popular music has much closer relation to their special psychologic characteristic. If we can analyze the reason and subsequent influence of this phenomena and seek corresponding teaching strategy from psychology, this typical problem in music education may be understood renewedly and solved subsequently by one kind of new way.
