In the new senior English course standard, students are regarded as the center and teachers as the guide in teaching. The standard aims at arousing students' interests and developing their abilities of getting information and helping them to obtain the right ways of reading through text teaching.This thesis attempts to guide the study on the methods of integral teaching of senior English texts using the theory of text analysis, Gestalt's cognitive psychology. The integral teaching of texts is to widen students' knowledge on language, styles of the texts, and cultural backgrounds and to unite the form and the content of the texts. In this way, the students' abilities of using language in listening, reading, writing and speaking, especially their abilities of reading and understanding can be improved. At the meantime, the integral text teaching is helpful for the teachers to gain certain theoretical basis to practise their teaching work in a better way.The integral teaching tries to change the old models of senior English text teaching and overcome the shortcomings of traditional teaching that attaches too much importance to reading and writing, and ignores listening and speaking.The main point of this thesis is illustrated in the third and fourth chapters. The third chapter analyses the basic principles, procedures, models and the process of the practice of integral teaching. The ways of improving students' abilities in listening, writing, speaking and reading are analyzed at the end of the third chapter. In the fourth chapter, the advantages and feasibility of integral text teaching are confirmed through the study on integral teaching of texts.
