With the development of knowledge-based economy, the higher education is developing towards the center of the society. And the contradiction between the concordant development of scale, quality, structure and performance of higher education and low-level management of higher institutions is becoming more and more serious. Therefore, it is urgent to set up a capable and efficient staff of managerial administrators. The "double shoulder task" administrator is an important component part of the staff of managerial administrators in universities with both advantages and disadvantages. It is a realistic problem how to exert the advantage and potentiality of the staff of the "double shoulder task" administrators in universities and how to deal with the problems existing in their work.This thesis illustrates the significance of applying role theory of sociology to study "double shoulder task" phenomenon of managerial administrators in universities. It starts with introducing role theory and "double shoulder task" phenomenon of managerial administrators in universities. Then it analyses the role play, role cognition and role advantages of the "double shoulder task" administrators. It primarily explores four conflicts including internal conflicts, intermediate conflicts, external conflicts and conflicts between roles and organization development;and seven harms which affect the scholastic justice, development of subject, good health, examination of work, managerial level, teaching and researching, relationship of the peers. At last the author puts forward some suggestions about how to direct the "double shoulder task" administrators to adjust to their roles from the aspects of organizational coordination and individual coordination. Organizational coordination consists of the establishment of role norm, the appreciation of role training and the establishment of monitoring mechanism. While the individual involves enforcing role consciousness, deepening role cognition, making role plan and studying role skill.This thesis possesses its own characteristics. It applies role theory of sociology to study the phenomenon "double shoulder task", which is novel in the perspective of research. And some new viewpoints and methods are applied in the research.
