The Programme for Reform in Courses of Elementary Education formulated bythe Education Ministry in 2001 put forward a proposal that students experience in lifeand grow up in the process of recognition of the surrounding. It also suggests that theproblems of life should enter the course and life is the source of course and teaching.The concept of education returning the life world has become a common trend in thearea of modern education all over the world. It has double meanings either from theaspect of philosophy or education. This paper aims to examine closely and probe intothe problem of how to make the reform in the Chinese new course teaching develop indepth. This paper consists of three parts. The first part presents the concept of life worldand reform in Chinese teaching. The second part presents the deviation of Chineseteaching from the life world and analyses its reasons. The last part presents the idea ofrestructuring Chinese teaching theory by relating it to the life world.The first part mainly presents the concept of life world and reform in Chineseteaching. Returning the life world is firstly suggested in the area of philosophy. In thispaper firstly analyses the concept of life and life world from the angle of philosophy. Itmaintains that in traditional Chinese philosophy, Chinese thinkers and educationistsused to construct the educational theory by differentiating and analysing the relationsbetween reason and morality, people and nature as well as heavenly principles andhuman desires. This paper mainly analyses Chinese ancient Confucians' life theory andits influence on education. In contrast to Chinese philosophy, the life world has alwaysbeen the focus of western philosophers. Since the beginning of 20th century when theconcept of the life world was suggested by Husserl, some important philosophical sectshave been paying attention to it. The paper chooses and analyses some representativeopinions by Husserl, Habermas and Dewey so it further cards and explains the conceptof life and life world. In addition to introducing the concept to the area of education, thepaper, by analysing the relation between education and life and the educational meaningof life world as well as differentiating the main differences between science world andlife world, also defines the meaning of life and life world in terms of educationphilosophy. Therefore, from the above it can be seen that the effect of the idea of lifeworld on the reform in Chinese teaching can be concluded as follows. Firstly, the centerof Chinese teaching should be students and life. The interactivity between individualstudents and Chinese teaching should be emphasized. Lastly people's dynamicgeneration in the process of Chinese learning should be attached importance to.The second part analyses the deviation of Chinese teaching form the life world andpresents its reasons. The paper, with a clear and real aim, by examining the currentsituation of Chinese teaching from the angle of the idea of life and life world, easilyfinds out that Chinese education ignores students' life world. The construct of aknowledge system centered on pure reason makes Chinese a dull subject set purely fortaking exams. Chinese teaching loses its key qualities which are of interest, imagination,creativity and humanity. This leads to Chinese teaching's separation from people's reallife. This paper gives a comparatively minute description on a variety of expressions ofthe deviation of Chinese teaching from the life world. It probes into the main reasonsfor the phenomenon and maintains that Chinese teaching in real life is in the currentstate of deviation from students' life world, where there generally exists suchphenomena as the lack of humanity care, deviation from real life as well as ignorance ofindividuality practice.The last part presents the theoretic construct of Chinese education in terms of thelife world. On the basis of carding the idea of life and life world education andcriticising current Chinese teaching practice, the paper lastly constructs a new idea ofreform in Chinese teaching in life and life world from four aspects. It is as follows. Interms of Chinese education theory, returning students' life world and elevating students'individual consciousness should be advocated. The content of Chinese education shouldsurmount the trammels of science world and pay attention to individual's life world.The process of Chinese teaching should focus on individual existence and hoisting ofpeople's life. Lastly, in terms of relations between teacher and student, giving andaccepting of knowledge should be changed into an equal contact.Chinese teaching in terms of life world not only follows the trend of new coursereform but also embodies the essence of Chinese teaching. It is a new teaching idea andstyle of learning advocated by the new teaching model. Chinese teaching in terms oflife world can be a sort of theoretical thought, which permeates the whole process ofChinese learning. It is still in the elementary stage and many problems exist in detailsso the practice will be hard. However, this teaching theory still embodies its initiativefrom many aspects. This paper's value lies in its emphasis on students' life value andstudents' individual spirit. On the basis of active absorbance of relevant theories andpractices, this paper presents its proposal in terms of theoretical construct and practiceprobing and attempts to make Chinese new course teaching reform effect abreakthrough and blaze new trails.
