The importance of understanding foreign culture and developing cross-cultural skills is an increasing acknowledged aspect in the teaching of foreign language. It is now increasingly recognized that foreign language learning and foreign culture learning cannot realistically be separated. Foreign language teachers in China have recognized the importance of developing learners'cultural awareness. But what to teach and how to teach in EFL classrooms are still problems. In primary schools in China the research in this aspect remains at the preliminary level. The acknowledgment to culture teaching still keeps in theory and many teachers cannot carry out it practically and effectively. Thus the culture teaching has not brought into playing its due function in the process of learning foreign language. In order to explore a more effective approach to develop learners'cultural awareness, a teaching experiment has been conducted.The main premise of the paper is that children of primary schools have the particular advantages in acquiring foreign languages and cultures.
