At present, New Curriculum Reform is a revolution in our nation's basic education field.The essential aim of the reform is to improve citizens' quality and cultivate well-roundtalented people. Among human being's qualities, environment literacy has become anindispensable quality of citizens in present and future society.Nowadays in China, environment education has become sustainable developmenteducation, which is different from traditional environment education. Meantime sustainabledevelopment education has combined with new curriculum reform. The Ministry of Educationformally put environment education as a transdisciplinary theme into primary and middleschools' curriculum in 1999. And in 2003, it issued the first national environment educationimplementation document.So this indicated that environment education for sustainable development education hasbecome an important component in the nation schools' curriculum. Environment problems not only have world-wide characteristics, but also have regionalcharacteristics. Based on the theory of present situation of local curriculum development andenvironment education, this research focuses on discussing the development of curriculum oflocal environmental protection. This thesis chooses Changzhi, a city situated in the southeastof Shanxi Province, as a case. It investigates local middle school students' awareness of theirhometown's environmental situation by questionnaire. And then it makes an inquiry into thedevelopment of curriculum of local environmental protection linked with Changzhi seriousenvironment problems. It aims in local environment problems-solving, environmentalprotection and eco-civilization construction.The paper includes five parts:The first part is an introduction. It mainly includes the cause of this research and thesummary of research on local curriculum and environmental education. Besides, it explainsthe basic train of thought and research methods of this paper.The second part is about the basis of the curriculum of local environmental protection.This is according to the realistic needs of local eco-environmental problems and local middleschool students' levels of environmental consciousness.The third part is about the value pursuit of developing the curriculum of localenvironmental protection in fragile environmental areas.The fourth part mainly discusses the implementation of the curriculum of localenvironmental protection. It respectively demonstrates the main part of developing localcurriculum, the factors of affecting the implementation of curriculum and the strategies ofcurriculum implementation.The last part is the summary and prospects of this research. It generalizes the paper andexpounds the value of it. Finally it puts forward the future further research.
