Reading comprehension is one of the most important purposes and skills in L2 learning and it has always been receiving much attention in teaching and learning English and other foreign languages. Teachers and researchers have accomplished a lot of achievements and invented many valuable approaches to improve the students' reading abilities. However, sometimes teaching and learning come apart. Some teachers owe the phenomenon that students cannot read correctly and quickly to the limited mastery of language points or to the explicit explanation in teaching. Actually those who hold all the above points of view overemphasize the role the teachers play in teaching , while they neglect the role of the students in learning , who are active participators. This thesis attempts to discuss the application of the teacher-guided students-self-learning model in reading teaching model, which is based on Piaget's constructivism, Schema Theory , Vygosky's Zone of Proximal Development ,Psychological process of reading comprehension. This thesis consists of six chapters : Chapter 1. the author gives a brief account of the reasons why this research was done and points out the necessity and validity of carrying out this presentation. Chapter 2 the rationale related to the present research is stated. The author points out the teacher-guided & students ' self-learning reading teaching model. Chapter 3 the author introduces the investigation and analysis of the model. Chapter 4 it describes the application of the reading model in reading teaching in high schools. Chapter 5 the author concludes the research and gives some advice to the teachers and researchers on how to carry out the reading model. Chapter 6 it draws a conclusion on the research and suggestions for the future research in this field.
