Teachers' questioning plays a very important role in mathematics teaching in senior schools. This essay focuses on teachers' questioning strategies they can use when they instruct their students to solve mathematical problems. Through review literature and questionnaires to 70 teachers and 100 students, interviews with 9 teachers and observe one master teacher's teaching, the author summarizes and discusses the questioning strategies of the two most important question types used by teachers when they teach problem solving, called understanding students' thinking questions and enlightening questions.1) In the aspect of understanding students' thinking questions, useful and common quality of some offered questions are surveyed besides some specific strategies are obtained. Some good understanding questions are also suggested. It is found after comparison that the useful evaluation of understanding questions are different for teachers of different areas, sex and teaching experience, evaluation viewpoints between teachers and students are also different. Besides, it is not identical between the most useful questions approved and the most common questions in use.2) In the aspect of enlightening questions, some specific strategies commonly used are obtained and some good questions are also suggested. Interviews find that for various reasons teachers lack strategic knowledge though they have attached much importance on it. Many teachers feel confused when no responses are got after enlightening in classes, thus some teachers give up enlightening to direct teaching. In the end, some teaching suggestions are provided on how to understand andenlighten students for teachers when they are teaching problem solving.
