In 21st century, sustainable development as an innovative development conception of society has been accepted generally and is supposed to be goal achieved by the commonalty of mankind. The sustainable development of education, especially higher education, is considered to be motivity for the sustainable development of society as well as base and assurance of that of human. The sustainable development of higher education depends on that of teachers. In the final analysis, it is their ability of sustainable development that should be enhanced, and hence, it is necessary to research on its construction.This thesis, implementing documentation analysis, theoretical research and comparative analysis, is based on a combination of practical speculation and theoretical structure and features a study of multiple orientations and layers about the ability of teachers. It intends to improve the living condition of faculty resources and boost their sustainable development.First, this thesis analyzes the origin of question and discusses the status of related research through documentary dissection. Then, it defines content, method and meaning of the research.Second, in order to guarantee the depth of description and worth of conclusion, this thesis presents unambiguously the concepts of sustainable development ability of teachers in universities and its construction on the basis of philosophical and prosopographical understandings of ability. In the meantime, related basic theories are also introduced concisely and the construction of ability in question is particularized from three aspects, which are sustainable development ability of body and mind, that of profession and that of socialization respectively.Construction of sustainable development ability of teachers in universities is affected by environmental, factor and personal factor. Thus, by analyzing the most influential factors, this thesis demonstrates motivity mechanism, culture mechanism, application mechanism as well as assessment mechanism and proposes applicable measures accordingly. Furthermore, it is expected, through this thesis, that condition and space teachers in universities can take effect to be bettered and expanded, and meanwhile their sustainable development ability can be enhanced constantly.Consequently, it is their capability for contributing to higher education and society that can be strengthened.
