English teaching of secondary school has been a long-held focus to English teaching practitioners, furthermore;under the background of new curriculum reform, the success of English teaching reform is very much related to the English language quality of the next generation and even to the developing potential of China. In order to grasp the spirit and the mechanism of English teaching models, it's necessary to understand the characteristics of present English teaching models and study the developing trend of it.The thesis consists of there sections. The first section offers a general introduction to English teaching models and its classifications. The second section is the core part of the thesis, which generalizes the four major catalogues of contemporary English teaching models, which are overall model, instructive model, communicative model and consolidation model, moreover;it analyzes the characteristics of them and meantime highlights the disadvantages of them. The characteristics are that teaching notions become scientific, teaching goals emphasis development, teaching procedures turn flexible, teaching relationship grows mutual and teaching evaluations increase diversity. However, the disadvantages are the insufficient theoretical ground, the strugglingexamination swamp and the misleading teaching goals. The third section deals with the relative theories and technologies, based on which, it manages to follow the developing tendency of English teaching models in secondary schools.
