As one of the three key major subjects of the basic education, English’s development has been concerned by the community. The English lexical teaching during junior-senior transition period is related to the English teaching of the whole senior school period. Vocabulary is the foundation of the English learning that has the particular important role. Therefore, the vocabulary size and the vocabulary learning ability of students determine the students’ level of English to some extent. Especially in this key transitional phase, a new identity after conversion, vocabulary is the first major challenge faced by new students.After reviewing the relevant theory and practical achievement and aiming at this phenomenon, the writer made the questionnaire survey and the interview among the new students and teachers in three senior school of Yan’an from September 2014 to December 2014. The writer issued questionnaires to the students and teachers of the senior high school respectively. Then analyzing and comparing the result of the questionnaires. In order to understand the current situation of the English lexical teaching, the writer had an interview with the teachers and students. Through analysis of the questionnaires and the discussion of the interviews, and according to the observation in the internship school, the paper aimed at discovering the situation of the English lexical teaching during junior-senior transition period and drawing the inspiration based on the extensive literature.The study tries to solve the problem of what the present situation of the English lexical teaching during junior-senior transition period.Through investigation and analysis, it can draw three conclusions. First, the teachers and students have shallow understanding to the English lexical teaching and learning. Many teachers ignored the research in vocabulary teaching, and vocabulary is more difficult which make the students feel fear. Second, the teacher’s teaching style is relatively simple, and the content of teaching is limited in the textbooks. The teacher can’t instill more extracurricular knowledge. Third, the teachers ignore the significance of the communication.For this situation, we can get inspiration. Firstly, the teacher should design the teaching based on the psychological development of students and eliminate the adverse effects of negative factors on student learning vocabulary; secondly, the teacher should play a guiding role and guide students to construct the knowledge actively; thirdly, helping students expand vocabulary input range; fourthly, the teacher should help students to learn to output the vocabulary.At the end of the paper, the writer summarizes of the thesis, and reflects the inadequacies of the study and indicates the direction for the further study.
