China is a big agricultural country, agriculture is the foundation of our country's economy. Chinese civilization is based on the agricultural civilization on the essence. The tradional value standpoints attitude towards life and the model of social behavior of our nation comes from the agricultural production. Therefore, in order to understand Chinese society fundamentally, we must understand Chinese countryside and peasants. In the peasants'eyes, the land is the lifeblood. It is the most important manufactural material, the most existing exist safeguard and the important developmental resource. The famers' cognition towards the value of the land, the level of rely, the judgement and wish of the land's property rights have effects on their policy decision towards the land: abandon, transfer or stay. These behavior will have effects on the process of the transfer of the rural land, the differentiation of the rural social stratum, the urbanization of the countryside, the modernization of the agriculture and the changes of the whole socity. Therefore, research on the farmers' land consciousness on the angle of concrete evidence is an important practical problem related to constructing a harmonious society and a new countryside of socialism.This research bases on the angle of the reasonal selecting theory and the social cognition theory. It supposes the farmers are reasonal, the surroundings, their psychology and cognition have effects on their behaviors. Based on this fundamental hypothesis theory, this research puts forward two concrete hypothesis: the economic development degree of the area has effect on the famers' land consciousness;the feature of the farmer, his land and his family have effects on the farmer's land consciousness.The author uses the data coming from investigation to test these hypothesis. The conclutions are: the famers' land consciousness is stillsrong, and appears not only traditional, but also modern;the economic development degree of the area has certain effect on the famers' land consciousness;the feature of the farmer and his family have certain effects on the farmer's land consciousness.This study find there are many problems remains to research on the famers' land consciousness: urbanization and the famers' land consciousness;the social system changes and the famers' land consciousness.
