Autonomous learning is the request for the students of Secondary Vocational Schools, it can make them adapt to the development of the society and the English teaching syllabus of Secondary Vocational Schools.The thesis talks about the reality of English teaching in some Secondary Vocational Schools and points out some problems, such as lack of English teaching resources, the students' poor English foundation and the monotonous teaching model. Although the students study passively, but they have strong demands for autonomous learning. There is an urgent need to develop education reform in English teaching of Secondary Vocational Schools. In order to seek the way to promote the English teaching, the thesis tends to construct autonomous learning model in English teaching of Secondary Vocational Schools. It is hoped that the new model can enrich the teaching resources by stimulating the autonomy of teachers and students. It is also hoped that the new model can improve English teachers' professional level and satisfy the students' autonomous learning request through the new study methods, and it can foster the students' autonomy.The literature review tells us the definitions of autonomous learning and teaching model, the relationship between teaching model and teaching effects and the main factors of composing a teaching model. In order to find the effectual factors of some successful autonomous learning models, the thesis introduces some well-known domestic and overseas autonomous learning models and some important English teaching models. Based on Cognitive Constructivism Learning Theory and Humanistic Learning Theory, the thesis constructs autonomous learning model in English teaching, aiming at fostering students' ability to study independently and improving the English teaching quality. The author also expounds four teaching principles and the concrete steps of the teaching model.In order to testify the validity of this teaching model, the author conducted an experiment on students of a Secondary Vocational School. The experiment verifies that the new model can raise the students' autonomous level and improve English teaching to some extent, which proves the usefulness and the possibility of the teaching model.At last, the author evaluates the model and points out some problems existing in theresearch. The thesis ends in discussing the prerequisites of an ideal English autonomous learning model.
