The Images Of Teachers In The Social Changes

Teachers are prolocutors not only of society but of education. Images of teachers in change reflect development of the teaching profession as well as of education and society, and changes of social values, traditions and habitus. This thesis tried to analyze the changes of the images of teachers deep and systematically, then discussed how the social changes influences the the development of the teaching profession and education, the significance of the images of teachers for education and society, and the methods for improving images of teachers.In the theoretical section, three keywords of the paper, social changes, images of teachers and content analysis, were firstly defined. Then the paper pointed out some faults and insufficiencies through reviewing the existed researches so as to put forward the research project of the paper.In the empirical section, 137 pieces of reports about fine teachers as the sample were taken form a authoritative educational magazine, People's Education, during the time from 1984 to 2003. According to seven indicators, the paper analyzed the changing images of teachers at five aspects, such as physical image, knowledge image, subject image, performance image and holistic image. Based on the analysis, the paper discussed possible reasons for these changes.In the last section, the paper compared and summarized the results of the theoretical and empirical reaches, and tabled some proposals about how to improve teachers' images.
