Abstract: How to cultivate talents with innovation ability is a keysubject of the educational reform of higher school。With the improvementof the education quality in our county and the deepening of the reform ofthe education management system。 College physical education plays animportant and active role in the modern quality-oriented education.Calisthenics, introduced into college physical class in the recent decade,is increasingly popular with girl students as a good form of exercise,recreation and appreciative gymnastics. Compared with other subjects,the teaching of calisthenics is unparalleled in taking up students'creativity for its openness in both teaching content and teaching settings.Unfortunately, the present traditional pedagogy for calisthenics lays toomuch emphasis on "teaching" from teachers and pays less attention to theresearch and innovation on students' "learning", which to greater andlesser degree reduces their interest in the course. The article is aimed toprobe into creative and innovative teaching methods in calisthenics basedon the new curriculum concept and establishes the value of calisthenics inbodybuilding exercise to stimulate the creative enthusiasm of studentsand enhance their ability to innovate calisthenics.The subjects of this research are 60 second-year girl students fromhigher vocational colleges. The following research methods have beenadopted such as documents reference, questionnaire surveys, experimentsand mathematic statistics etc. The purpose of the research is to applycreative and innovative teaching methods to calisthenics classes tocultivate students' creativity. After 36-period teaching practice in onesemester, the researches and analyses between experimented group andcontrol group have shown that adopting creative teaching methods incalisthenics class in higher college greatly contributes to improvingstudents' creativity. The conclusion is as follows: 1) innovativecalisthenics teaching based on the new curriculum concept is furtherimprovement on the basis of traditional physical pedagogy. The newphysical teaching methods have apparently fostered students' ideology incalisthenics, enhanced their creative skills and attained the educationalaim of the coordinate development of students both mentally andphysically. 2) The flexible and multiple new teaching methods incalisthenics has greatly enhanced students' initiatives and interests ininnovating calisthenics by themselves. And some students with badperformance in physical classes have also overcome their psychologicalblocks, and they try hard to practice in classes and can enjoy class time. 3)The new calisthenics teaching methods advocate making most use ofstudents' initiative, stimulating their activity and enthusiasm to study andthus enhancing their innovative ideology, creativity in calisthenics, theability to self-learn and to cooperate. In the new calisthenics teachingpractice based on the solid command of calisthenics teaching theory,teachers have brought into full play their imagination, originally creatednew, well-organized, simple and practical calisthenics and students havealso benefited a lot from the recreation. 4) The research shows that it isfeasible to cultivate students' creativity in calisthenics classes. Theprocess of learning calisthenics is also the one of cultivating students'comprehensive ability. It is necessary to establish the idea of innovationas the essence of calisthenics teaching and at the meantime closely stickto it in physical classes.In one word, teachers adopt educational thoughts, teaching methodsand evaluation criterion in calisthenics classes should firmly accord withthe present trend of teaching reform in our country.
