A Research On Environmental Education In British Elementary And Secondary Schools

With the development of economy and society , problems of environment arises. Environmental education increasingly enjoys an universal importance , and becomes a key part in the education field However, when it comes to how to carry out environmental education and how to effectively carry it out, every country is exploring them. In the course of explorations, borrowing effective strategies and methods are of great importance from other countries which has done a good job in environmental education. So does our country. Over more two decades, environmental education in our country has made some progress and has gained some experience. However, there are some problems and plenty of room for improvement. Nowadays, basic education is launching a campaign of reform in curriculum. It's a good chance for the development of environmental education in China. Across the globe, environmental education in elementary and secondary schools is practically and theoretically into the lead all the time in the world. There are so many successful methods worthy to be learned by our country. Therefore in order to promote the developing of environmental education and the bettering of environmental conditions in our country, this thesis targets it and tries to gain some inspirations through probing into its historical and present development.This thesis consists of five parts. The first part focuses on historical development of environmental education in British elementary and secondary schools. The second one discusses its today's development in schools, at home and in society. The third one analysizes its characteristics. The fourth one points out its problems and tries to find out strategies to solve them. The last part comes to a conclusion, getting some inspirations to develop environmental education in our country from Britain.
