Since the reform and opening up, our country has entered into a new era of socialisticconstruction with rapid development of economic, political and culture. The promising future foreducation work is emerged since it has been recovered quickly. With the progress of the education,the filed of music education has been paid more attention than before. As a crucial part of beautyeducation, the importance of music education is being acquainted by us. What's more, the musiceducation is growing by its own way properly. However, the music education in rural area is not ingood condition because of the historical and regional reason. As a fact, ahnost eighty-five percentof schools and seventy-five percent of students are in rural area. If the weak situation of musiceducation in rural area can not been well improved, the average level of our country's fundamentalmusic education will been increased slowly so that the Essential-Qualities-Oriented (EQO)education for all people can not been realized truly.Recently, several scholars, specialists and teachers are paying more attentions to theuncultured situation of music education in rural area. Whereas, many researches for thesequestions are limited to the theory, which are not put into practices either. On the basis of theearlier achievements, this paper will have a deep and systemic investigation into the musiceducation in rural area since the reform and opening up.This paper consists of the following five parts: introduction, the music education forElementary and Secondary school in rural area since the reform and opening up(from 1979 to1989), the music education for Elementary and Secondary school in rural area since the publishof "The global layout of art education for all the schools in china" (from 1989 to 2000), the musiceducation for Elementary and Secondary school in rural area since the publish of "thespecification of music tutorial" (from 2001 to 2006) and the conclusion finally. This paper adoptsboth the historical and literature research methods to investigate and analyze the transformationsand developments of music education in rural area since the new ear. Furthermore, the experiences and lessons for the reform of music education over the last twenty years are summarized, and theinspirations for the future music education reform are also explained in this paper. In addition, thispaper analyzes the current status and existed problems for music education in rural area andproposes corresponding methods which can provide foundations of theory and practice for theresearch. I hope I can contribute to the development of music education for Elementary andSecondary school in rural area through this paper.
