The problem that the instructional design aims to solve, briefly put, is to offer an answerto the question of what and how to teach and learn. For middle and junior school teachersthat plan to develop the new courses, these perplexing problems are to be encountered fromtime to time. The process of instructional design is a systematic and complex one. For aqualified history teacher solid foundation of instructional design theory, as well ascorresponding skill are a must. Given the background of new courses, new ideas are requiredto meet the standards of instructional design, that is, we shall focus on the learners, adhere totheir regular pattern of study, and emphasize their dominant role in the learning process.During instructional design we shall place the highest priority on the studying process oflearners and aim on their later development as our ultimate concern. Therefore, thediscussion on the instructional design must be heeded as an essential demandof improvingthe quality of classroom instruction and a crucial response to the higher vocational standardsof teacher. By using the human-centered approach and in combination with the author's teachingpractice, the special features of history course and the curriculum standard of new courses,this paper analyses the instructional design of history class within the system of new courses,provides some viewpoints and understandings on instructional design and illustrates it withabundant cases and charts.The research is limited to the junior and high school stages due toinsufficient time and capacity. The paper consists of three parts.In the first parts the author discusses the theoreticalfoundations and practical demands.The second part expounds the content and applicationof instructional process design and the third part lists out some cautions during the designprocess.
