Chemistry is one of the fundamental nature science , it is also a forward-positioned subject in modern scientific and technological circles. 《The standards of the chemistry courses》 establishes the focal point of the reform of the senior middle school chemistry courses in the stage of the compulsory education. The new course theory: "developing the interest of students to study chemistry, the purport of improving the scientific literacy of students". For middle school students, the scientific literacy is the fundamental character and ability of fitting the society development and fulfilling oneself which is formed, when the students have been receiving some scientific knowledge. The scientific literacy including the parts such as knowledge and technical ability, process and methods, emotional attitude and value views. The teaching content of chemistry has a large coverage so that it is beneficial for carrying out the "STS" (Science, Technology, Society) education in many ways, developing the students' scientific literacy. But the students' scientific literacy can not be like knowledge which can be taught to students directly. It must of the students join and work together in order to reach the purpose. How to train the scientific quality of students in the process of chemistry teaching ?This article expounds the basic concept of scientific literacy, status and the partical significance of carrying out the education of chemical scientific literacy. It also arranges the basic conditions of citizens' scientific literacy in recent periods and makes a simple analysis, putting forward some basic scientific quality needs of the senior school students, also the literacy of teachers who develop the students' scientific literacy in the process of chemistry teaching.The scientific literacy of students needs teachers' guiding and developing. Teachers play a important part in this process, such as, permeating the chemical knowledge, training the students' emotional attitude and value views, trainning and teaching students in the aspects of daily chemistry, the history of chemistry, the chemistry experiment and the second course teaching.We should teach on the basic of the characters of chemistry courses, use many...
