The division of labor divides the educational workers into professional theory researchers and teachers. And this division leads to the separation of the education theory and practice for a long time. And in northwest China rural, the poor economy and cultural lag retards the local teachers' professional development and the promotion of teaching quality. This thesis is about that two problems mentioned above. On one hand, it aims that the teachers who from a northwest rural primary school can produce some professional knowledge by themselves by the action research on participatory approaches to teaching in order to join the theory and practice. On the other hand, it aims to accelerate the teachers' professional growth by reflection, to change the teaching mode by putting the participatory approaches into practice. And these can improve the quality of the education. This thesis describes the process and the initial results of the action research more and detailed through seven stories:During the research, the teachers are able to use a variety of teaching methods correctly, understand the participatory approaches to teaching more profoundly, and have formed a sense of reflection and research. Some teachers have even been able to do research independently. On some practical problems, the action research produced a number of strategies, and the problems have been solved preliminary. Meanwhile, this research proves that the participatory approaches to teaching will not reduce students' grades, but may upgrade them in the existing examination system. And from the research we know that to introduce and practice a kind of new educational method or concept in a school must relate it with the school status. By assisting teachers to upgrade their behavior quality can change their thinking more effectively. School-based teaching research is an effective approach to improve the quality of teaching in northwest rural schools. And, the pure participation, the core of participatory approaches to teaching and action research, is the inevitable choice for people to seek freedom without objectifying others. So successful participatory teaching is the incarnating of teachers' and students' subjectivity in the process of communication.
