New science curriculum innovation in our nation especially attach importance to enhancing students' knowing to the nature of science(NOS). Junior secondary school science curriculum standards regard "enhancing students' knowing to NOS" as the basis of erecting science curriculum. Meanwhile, NOS is impenetrated through the history of science(HOS), so how science textbooks use HOS to convey the notion of NOS is not only a special question to our nation, but also a common one to many countries all over the world. The purpose of this research was to explore the Junior Secondary School Science Textbooks in China complied in accordance with curriculum standards in 2001, including the Zhe Jiao, Hua Shi and Shang Jiao edition textbooks from the perspective of history of science with the view of nature of science as the theoretical framework. The result of the research on one hand could be used to analyze the width and depth of the new science curriculum innovation in China, and on the other could be used as references for teachers to select and for science-textbook editors to edit books in future. On the basis of abundant literatures, this research firstly comprehensively summarized the result of contemporary science education group's theoretical research to NOS. The research used such result as the theoretical framework of analyzing HOS in textbooks; after this, it formed its own method and analytical framework combined with some homeland and foreign researchers' methods and results; lastly, it employed content analysis method which uses both quantitative and qualitative analysis to give the findings of this study. That is, firstly, to quantitate the content of history of science in the textbooks from three main aspects and their fifteen subsidiary categories of the nature of science, followed by the qualification of the corresponding categories to analyze the form and statement of their presence. The primary findings are as the following: 1. On the whole, the largest proportion dealing with history of science is Hua Shi edition; and the proportions of Shang Jiao and Zhe Jiao are the same; 2. In the aspect of science knowledge, the most frequently present categories are "temporary", "uniform", while the least ones are "forecast" and "creativity"; in the aspect of science process, the most frequently present categories are "substantiality", which followed by "publicity" in Hua Shi and Shang Jiao edition; and all of the three editions deals with "doubt", "deduction" and "limitation" to some degree; in the aspect of science culture, the most frequently present categories are "science and society", "science and technology" and "the role of scientists", while the least ones are "importance of science community" and "the ethic and moral principle"(few, especially in Zhe Jiao edition); 3. In the main aspects, history of science in the three edition textbooks deal with the "science knowledge" the least while the most with "science process" and "science culture"; 4.When involving with more content of history of science, the matter would be arranged in the informal text, such as "Reading"/ "Reading Material", "Small Material" and so on.
