The purpose of this paper is to get a close look at different teaching methods between a native-speaking English teacher and a Chinese English teacher. It mainly focuses on their teaching styles, the provision of cultural information and their personalities that are supposed to influence Ss' language learning.First of all, the thesis gives a brief introduction to this case study. It explores the significance of studying different teaching approaches and the rationale for designing this case study, that is to say, why to study native English teachers' teaching methods is useful for improving Chinese English teachers' approaches. The identification of the research question will be included: Do native English teachers use different teaching methods from those of the Chinese English teachers? The question will be addressed in the following aspects: 1. What are their teaching objectives? 2. What are the differences between their teaching models? 3. Do students have more activity time in the native English teacher's classroom than they do in the Chinese English teacher's classroom? 4. Do native English teachers give more background knowledge or explain more about western cultures? And also the organization of the case study will be described.Secondly, the thesis describes the background in methodologies of teaching English as a second language. In this part, the classification of English teaching methods is introduced.
